Our course in Rail Industry Core Skills provides practical knowledge and skills for those who are wishing to work in rail construction and rail maintenance. This course meets the on track competency compliance requirements for Australian Rail Track Corporation (ARTC) and Metro Trains Melbourne (MTM). The course is based on practical and classroom activities. Assessment tests are completed in class and are to be submitted during the program. Participants with relevant experience may be eligible to apply for Recognition of Prior Learning.

The course covers the following units:

  • Maintain and use hand tools (TBLIB1028A)
  • Shift materials safely using manual handling methods (TLID1001A)
  • Participate in basic workplace communications (TLIE1003A)
  • Follow OH&S procedures (TLI1001A)
  • Safely access the rail corridor (TLIF2008A)
  • Apply an awareness of safe working rules and regulations (TLIF2062A)
  • Apply environmental procedures for rail infrastructure (TLIU2008A)
  • Apply fatigue management strategies (TLIF2010A)
  • Work safely in the construction industry (CPCCOHS1001A)
  • Operate under track protection rules (TLIW2001A)

Suited to
Entry-level skilled and unskilled workers wishing to undertake work in Rail Construction and Maintenance.

Participants will be expected to have passed a Rail Industry Health Assessment [Category 3] at an Approved Rail Operator Accredited medical clinic and have a basic level of literacy and numeracy.
